Chelsea Chen was born in China and began to study piano under strict Russian school education system at age of five. She earned a Bachelor of Art in Music Education with a Minor in K-12 Educational Studies and a Master of Art in Piano pedagogy at Sichuan Conservatory of Music in 2009. As a graduate student in China, she kept a full teaching load at home and tutored music students at Sichuan Vocational Academy of Art.
At the California State University- Fullerton, she was granted academic scholarship and a teaching assistantship where she had privilege undergraduate non-major group lessons. As part of performance studies, she hold two graduate recitals on campus which both were awarded highly praises. Her pedagogical interest includes Group Lesson Piano Instruction and Teaching Children with Special Needs.
As a part of her training, she have competed and awarded in numerous statewide, national and international piano competitions and festivals as well as participated in master classes with Gabriel Montero, Federic Chiu, Boris Berman and Grace Fong.
Upon graduation from Sichuan Conservatory of Music, she worked for Shuinianhe Elementary school for two years where she taught music lessons and lead a choir. In addition, she joined the piano faulty at Sichuan Vocational Academy of Art where she taught preparatory piano lessons. Recently, she is a substitute teacher in Yamaha academy and under the training of Yamaha Music System. Currently, she is a member of Music Teacher’s Associate of California (MTAC).
